THE MOSI-OA-TUNYA NATIONAL PARK

Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park is an UNESCO World Heritage site that is home to one half of the mighty and spectacular Mosi-oa-Tunya — 'The Smoke Which Thunders' — known worldwide as Victoria Falls on the Zambezi River. Wildlife found in the park includes: elephants, giraffe, zebra, warthog, buffalo, sable, eland, impala and other antelopes. Hippopotamus and crocodiles are found by the Zambezi River bank.

Livingstone Museum is devoted to archaeology, ethnography and history and contains a magnificent collection of memorabilia relating to David Livingstone. In front of the museum there is a statue to him, as well as to Czech ethnographer Emil Holub, erected in 2005.

THE VICTORIA FALLS BRIDGE

Before the 1900s, the Zambezi river was crossed above the falls at the Old Drift by canoes. As a result of Cecil Rhodes's vision of a Cape to Cairo Railway, the first bridge across the Zambezi was built at the Second Gorge. Cecil Rhodes insisted it be built where the spray from the falls would fall on passing trains. The bridge was opened on September 1906. Livingstone prospered from its position as a gateway to trade between the north and south sides of the Zambezi.
